Microdermabrasion in Atlanta, GA
Exfoliation is one of the best ways to rejuvenate your skin, and microdermabrasion offers many benefits. Betsy Horton, MD, of Omega MedSpa offers microdermabrasion treatments for residents in Atlanta, Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Newnan, Eagles Landing, Hampton, LaGrange, and surrounding communities in Georgia.
What is Microdermabrasion?
Exfoliation gives you a brighter, healthier complexion because the process removes dead and damaged skin cells. By removing these cells, microdermabrasion rejuvenates your skin and may also help with stretch marks, sun damage and uneven skin tone. The treatment can be repeated each month.
Benefits of Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion treatments take 30 to 60 minutes and require no downtime. The procedure is non-invasive and only removes the skin cells from the skin. If you need more extensive skin rejuvenation, Dr. Horton may recommend laser skin resurfacing. Microdermabrasion may be recommended to maintain the improvements from the skin resurfacing procedure.
How Does Microdermabrasion Work?
A special handheld device is used to blast the skin with microcrystals, such as diamond particles. When the microcrystals come in contact with the skin, they loosen the dead and damaged skin cells. The handheld device also vacuums away the microcrystals and skin cells.
Am I a Candidate for Microdermabrasion?
Patients with certain skin conditions, such as viral infections or hypertrophic scars, should not have microdermabrasion treatments. If you have had facial surgery recently, Dr. Horton may recommend that you postpone your microdermabrasion treatments.
What to Expect from Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion may help with:
- Acne by removing skin cells that clog pores
- Lines and wrinkles
- Skin symptoms caused by rosacea
- General skin maintenance
You may notice a slight warming sensation as the microcrystals are applied to the skin. This is normal and may last for a few hours.
How Long is the Recovery After a Microdermabrasion Treatment?
Microdermabrasion does not require a specific recovery period. You should protect your skin with sunscreen, and high-quality moisturizers can help calm the skin.
