Many men and women face the frustration of not being able to tone certain areas of excess fat, such as the thighs and abdomen. Plastic surgery is often believed to be the only option, but SculpSure® may offer a non-surgical solution. Betsy Horton, MD, of Omega MedSpa, offers SculpSure® and other treatments for residents in Atlanta, Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Newnan, Eagles Landing, Hampton, LaGrange, and surrounding communities in Georgia.
What is Sculpsure®?
SculpSure® is a laser fat reduction treatment that is FDA approved for reducing stubborn fat on the body. Laser technology has been used in the medical and cosmetic field for many years, and proven to be a viable method for specific applications. In the field of aesthetics, laser energy is used for skin tightening, skin resurfacing, scar reduction and hair removal. The SculpSure® system is specifically designed to use laser energy to reduce stubborn fat.
Benefits of Sculpsure®
Laser fat reduction with SculpSure® treatments:
- Takes less than one hour
- Requires no incisions or scarring
- Is non-surgical, so there is no downtime
- Is comfortable for most patients
How does Sculpsure® work?
SculpSure® works by targeting stubborn fat cells with a specific wavelength of laser energy. The wavelength of the system means that no surrounding tissues are affected by the laser. The laser heats and destroys the fat cells, which are then naturally removed by your body.
Am I a candidate for Sculpsure®?
You should be near your ideal weight to be a candidate for SculpSure® treatments. This means that your body mass index, or BMI, should be 30 or less. Some other aspects of your health may also need to be considered, such as any medical conditions, adverse reactions to laser treatments, current medications and demonstrated commitment to maintaining a healthy weight. If you have recently lost weight, Dr. Horton may recommend that you continue with exercise and eating properly for a few months to ensure that your weight is stabilized.
What to expect from Sculpsure®
During the SculpSure® treatment, a special handpiece is placed over the treatment area. Throughout the treatment, the system generates a cooling energy to help you stay comfortable. You will feel a cycle of warming, which is associated with the laser energy targeting and heating the fat cells. You may also notice a tingling sensation.
How long is the recovery after a Sculpsure® treatment?
No recovery time is required for SculpSure® treatments. You can return to your normal schedule after the appointment. You may begin to see results after six weeks, and the best results are typically seen after 12 weeks.
